Shop-to-Flat Conversion in Battersea SW11
Draw Plans were commissioned to transform a vacant commercial shopfront in Battersea into a sleek, contemporary residential flat. Located in a prominent corner plot in SW11, the project demonstrates how disused retail space can be elegantly repurposed into a light-filled, functional home with strong architectural presence and minimalist style.
From Shopfront to Private Residence
The exterior was fully refurbished to respect the character of the original building while creating privacy for its new use. We introduced frosted glazing and a modern front door with a clean-lined canopy, helping the property blend into the residential street while retaining a contemporary edge.
Open-Plan Living with Modern Simplicity
Inside, the layout was completely reconfigured to form an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area. Minimalism guided every design decision — from the seamless white cabinetry and flush finishes to the use of clean lines, neutral tones, and concealed lighting. Bespoke herringbone flooring runs throughout the space, adding texture and warmth.
Contemporary Kitchen Design
The new kitchen is designed with function and flow in mind. A peninsula counter separates the kitchen from the rest of the space, while pendant lighting and a ceiling-mounted extractor add drama and modernity. Glossy white units, open shelving, and a marble-effect tiled backsplash create a light and airy cooking environment.
Internal Courtyard and Natural Light
A critical part of the transformation was ensuring the internal spaces felt bright and connected to the outdoors. We introduced a central courtyard space and installed full-height sliding glass doors and skylights throughout, allowing light to flood deep into the floorplan and making even the inner rooms feel open and spacious.
Functional, Minimalist Interiors
The interiors are deliberately pared back to offer flexibility and a gallery-like atmosphere. Clean white walls, concealed services, and inset spotlights form a calming backdrop for future residents. Bedrooms are modest yet smart, with timber-style tiling underfoot and oversized windows for natural light.
Designer Bathroom with Monochrome Styling
The bathroom continues the theme with bold black-and-white geometric tiles, modern sanitaryware, and chrome detailing. White subway tiles bring a timeless quality, while built-in shelving and mirrored cabinetry maximise storage in a compact space.
